Intro to Experiential & Horse Powered Reading Instruction

Meet online for 4 days - 2 hours each week

This course will introduce the basic principles of Experiential Reading Strategies for the classroom as well as the Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) program - Horse Powered Reading (HPR). HPR can be incorporated into your existing EAGALA model EAL/EAP program or school programing.

This course includes two assignment tracks, one for EAL practitioners
and one for classroom teachers. Both will learn activities for experiential reading instruction to help struggling readers. This is a great way to partner with local educators and help them learn about the benefits of EAL.
Participants will earn 16 CEUs toward EAGALA renewal and MN teachers can earn 16 hours toward relicensure.

Registration is limited to 8 participants.
Your $300.00
registration fee includes HPR curriculum!

  • A Team Approach - involves both a Mental Health Professional as well as a Horse Specialist (who at Cross P Ranch is also a Reading Specialist)
  • Focused on the Ground - There is no riding or mounted work
  • Solution Oriented - Students discover solutions through the activities and metaphors created in the arena with the horses
  • Guided by the EAGALA Code of Ethics - which you can find at

Horse Powered Field Trips for preschool through college aged student groups are available throughout the summer by appointment. In addition to Horse Powered Reading,  other Horse Powered Learning programs offered are; Leadership Skills, Cooperation and Team Building, and Bullying issues.  All programs involve fun activities with the horses that build problem-solving skills and self-confidence.  Contact us for more information, pricing, and options.
